Gum Mastic is made from precipitation of pistachio bushes. Mastic is soluble in alcohol, turpentine, gasoline and other solvents. It is mainly used as varnish for oil paintings. Due to its good adhesion properties on gold leaf or silver leaf, mastic is also frequently used as coating varnish for metal leaf. Also used as an ingredient in gold varnish.
