Kölner Revisol is a useful tool for gilding freshly varnished/painted surfaces that still offer some adhesion for gold leaf.
As a gilder it can be frustrating that gold leaf sticks where it shouldn't, Kölner Revisol prevents this.
Coat the surface with a thin layer of Revisol and allow to dry. The drying time of the Kölner Revisol is at least 1 - 2 hours (but you can also leave it to dry for longer). Then apply the adhesive to the areas to be gilded. Most adhesives such as Ölmixtion, Instacoll or Signcoll adhere well to the surface due to the thin layer of Revisol. After the gilding has dried, the Revisol can be washed off with a soft, damp (water) cloth. Gold leaf outside the gilded areas adheres to the Revisol layer and can be easily removed.
