Resin is the sap excreted by certain species of trees to heal damage to the bark. It can be used as a binding agent as it is water insoluble. The fresh outflow of the tree is called balm and it has mostly a very viscous consistency. Into the air, the into the balm contented essential oils evaporate and it remains a more or less colourless resin.
